Inspirational People

I Charlotte have been doing Bethany Hamilton for Inspirational People this is my poster,

On my poster I put

Bethany hamilton is famous for persevering through a shark attack, this is her story.

When Bethany was 13 she was surfing at Tunnels Beach in Kauai with her best friend Alana Blanchard, Alana's father, Holt, and brother Byron. Around 7:30 a.m., with lots turtles in the area, she was lying on her surfboard with her left arm dangling in the water, when a suddenly 14-foot tiger shark came out of nowhere and 9attacked her, separated her left arm from her body just below the shoulder.

The Blanchards helped paddle her back to shore, then Alana's father fashioned a tourniquet out of a surfboard leash and wrapped it around the stump of her arm. She was rushed to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. By the time she arrived there she had lost over 60% of her blood and was in shock.

A doctor living in a hotel nearby raced to the rescue. Her father, who was scheduled to have knee surgery that morning, was already there, but she took his place in the operating room. She spent a week in recovery before being released.

She has confirmed that she felt normal when she was bitten and did not feel much pain from the bite at the moment of the disaster, but felt numb on the way to the hospital.

Not long after the accident, Hamilton showed her bravery by jumping back into the shark-inhabited waters. The thought of another attack was daunting and getting rid of the fear would prove to be a challenge. Hamilton would show that her fear could not keep her off the waves. "When she was later asked if she had any fear of the ocean, Hamilton said 'I don't feel differently about the water, but I think of sharks more often.' These thoughts didn't keep her off the waves." ("Bethany Hamilton"). After the accident her fears of sharks greatly increased but she never let go of her dream. Even though some anxiety still lurks inside her, she toughs it out and continues to do what she loves. The bravery in her heart consumed her fear as she continued to pursue her goal, and she would not let measly sharks stand in the way of that. Hamilton still battles her fears as many of them do not go away. "There have been moments when Bethany and her mother are haunted by that October 2003 morning. But 'I hardly ever get worried,' she says, and she has ways of calming herself down." Countless times fears find their way back into our eyes, and we learn to confront them, just as Bethany and her mother have. She copes with the fact that there are still sharks out there through both her faith and music, never letting them hold her back. They do not let the unfortunate incident control their lives, because the alternative of living in fear is a life no one would ever want to live. Hamilton leaves her fears behind her once she gets into the water. Her love and dedication towards surfing help her to become the brave figure that she is.

Leavers speach

My first day starts as I walk into the classroom, my tummy has got butterflies I was as nervous as a little tiny pig, but the day got shorter and I became happier and the butterfly's had gone away the day was getting better. I made so much friends but the playing with them all the time had come to an end and when I left Singapore to go to Hong Kong I didn’t actually want to go.

I have been in Hong Kong for around two years now, I remember sienna and I on the bus on the way home we were playing on our iPad and trying to beat each other's scores, she kept beating me, she was better at the game then me, but it is not about winning or losing… Ok maybe it was but we were best friends and when I I has to leave Hong Kong I was so upset, I did not want to leave my best friends or the Australian international school or in short AISHK.

In Nelson, and loving it I have been here for one week and it has been super fun.
Now I have spent a few week in Nelson and my cousin Francesca is taking my to meet two of the girls in my class Ocean and Cherry (she knows them from dance).

Athletics

Athletics was on Wednesday the 25th of November.
For athletics we did  discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, long distance and sprints. I enjoyed high jump. I was surprised by how I got top 4 for 10 year old girls. I don't like how I did not try hard enough with the sprints.

THIS IS WHAT I AM GOING TO SAY TO THE CLASS!!!

The woman known as the “soul surfer” who lost her arm in a shark attack but went on to become a professional surfer said her faith in Jesus Christ carried her through the emotional pain and uncertainty she felt after her accident.
“I thought for a time I had lost more than just my arm,” said Bethany, who was attacked by a 14-foot shark when she was 13 years old in 2003. “I felt as though my hopes and dreams to become a pro surfer and venture the world were stripped away.”
Bethany, whose story was featured in the 2011 film “Soul Surfer,” said her faith in Jesus helped her to lean on “his understanding” rather than her own a paradigm that helped her power through the many obstacles she faced.
Rather than continuing to mourn the body she once had, Hamilton said the experience has helped her grow spiritually.
“I have no regrets for the adversity that God has allowed me to go through”. “I am now honored to be a role model and inspiration to many young girls throughout America and the world ultimately, to share the hope and salvation there is in Jesus Christ.”
Hamilton said that while some might be tempted to pity her, she views the 2003 attack and its resulting impact on her life as “something beautiful.”
